School boy suspected to have died of medical condition
In a tragic incident, a Class 12 student from Indira Nagar fatally collapsed at his home in the wee hours of 30th November. Rumours were rife on social media that the boy had died after he had consumed a popular snack followed by antacid. However, doctors said that it could be an unknown medical condition.

Sirish Savio, a Class 12 student of St Michael Academy, had complained of uneasiness after eating a popular snack. He was given some antacid that triggered a bout of vomiting. When he was rushed to Fortis Malar Hospital, he was declared brought dead, said a source from the hospital. “We had handed over the body to the family,” the source added. Sai Lakshmi (name changed), a neighbour, said, “We learnt of his death early in the morning. When he saw him, his lips had discoloured.”
The news of his sudden death spread on social media, with most posts citing the combination of the snack and antacid to be the cause of death. Warning many against allowing children to have packaged snacks. However, a source from the school, said that it was a medical condition that could have triggered the aneurysm. Dr M Somasundaram, Cardiologist, Meenam Hospital, said that aneurysm is a bulging of the vessel wall.
“The wall which is as such thin doesn’t have the muscle power to bear the pressure of the bulge and can cause it to rupture and lead to internal bleeding. It can occur in any part of the body. If it is in the abdomen there could be diverse symptoms,” he said It is a severe condition and a silent killer, he added.
