Farmers plan hunger strike on December 6
Demanding the Centre to declare Tamil Nadu as drought-hit and to press for compensation for crop loss, the Federation of Farmers Associations have planned to go on a hunger strike on December 6 in Tiruvarur.

The federation’s convenor PR Pandian on Monday urged the national and regional parties to support the farmers, in order to prevent further deaths due to crop failure. Pandian said, apart from the failure of monsoon, Union government is also to be blamed for the drought situation in Cauvery Delta region as it failed to constitute the Cauvery Management Board on time. The association has demanded Rs 25,000 per acre as drought relief. Farmers charged that the Centre has been keeping quiet on the efforts of Karnataka government to go ahead with a new dam across Cauvery in Mekedatu. The bhoomi pooja for the same has been scheduled on January 2, 2017, they alleged.Â
