More than 500 congressmen participated in the meeting. Earlier in the morning, the TNCC chief visited the Madurai City Branch of State Bank of India (SBI) and interacted with the people standing in queue outside the bank and ATM. People actively came forward to register their grievances with Thirunavukkarasar. He then met the media and claimed that the demonetisation measure introduced by the Central government had brought untold sufferings to the common man. Elderly people and differently-abled people were the worst affected due to the demonetisation move and they were seen suffering at the queues in front of the banks and ATM centres. The TNCC leader also claimed that people are forced to stand in the queue for several hours and many people had fainted and had even died by standing in the queues. Banks and police should arrange basic amenities such as drinking water and toilet facilities for people standing in queues.

In this way people at least could stand in the queue without any problem he claimed. He further said that the monetisation measure was ill-planned as people do not get enough change for the Rs 2,000 note. Owing to it small traders are affected much and people too could not buy small products. To solve the crisis more Rs 500 notes should be pumped in and by doing so people would get change for Rs 2,000 note. People too would be able to get products from smaller traders and the traders can buy from wholesalers, said Thirunavukkarasar.
