Nadigar Sangam seeks protection for annual meet

Speaking to the media, actor Karthi, who is also treasurer of the Sangam, said that the annual general body meeting of the Nadigar Sangam will be held at Loyola College in Nungambakkam and added that the association has sought for police protection in view of a felicitation event to honour famous personalities. Karthi said that the police have assured them of the needful. The Nadigar Sangam, which has over 3,000 members, was in the news in 2015 after a disagreement erupted over construction of a new building at the association premises. 

Subsequently, elections were held which gave way to newly elected representatives with Nasser taking over as president and Vishal as general secretary. Recently, the Nadigar Sangam conducted a celebrity cricket tournament after accusations of money laundering were made against Vishal. Though the office-bearers clarified on the accusations, Varahi, a member of the Nadigar Sangam, lodged a complaint against Nasser and Vishal saying Rs 6 crore were missing from the profits from the event.  

Last week, a section of temporarily-barred junior actors had lodged a complaint at the Commissioner’s office that they were assaulted by goons, as they tried to celebrate Vishal’s ousting from Producers’ Council, the Nadiger Sangam premises.

SICA seeks action on ex-office-bearers

Cinematographer and president of Southern India Cinematographers Association (SICA) P C Sreeram lodged a complaint with Commissioner of Police S George against former office-bearers of the association alleging misappropriation of association funds.

The complaint is levelled against former president N K Viswanathan, a resident of Balaji Nagar, former general secretary G Shiva of Rajaji Colony in Saligramam and former treasurer K S Selvaraj, a resident of second street in Vadapalani. The SICA president, in his petition, has alleged the previous office-bearers misused the association funds for the past eight years without furnishing bills and vouchers for nearly Rs 40 lakh. It further said that several showcause notices to them were not honoured. “This has caused heavy loss to the union as it is unable to claim the TDS amount of Rs 37.5 lakhs which was deducted by a private TV channel for a SICA awards function held in 2015,” the petitioners stated. 

Meanwhile, veteran comedian Goundamani on Tuesday lodged a petition with the Commissioner of Police to take legal action against miscreants who spread rumours about his health condition on social media.  His advocate K Sasi Kumar submitted the complaint on behalf of the actor. Goundamani who has been in the industry for 40 years has been, of late, a repeated victim of rumours and fake news declaring him dead. His complaint letter stated that the police must take action against the people who circulate such baseless and unwarranted hearsays on social media. He further stated that such items create a panic among his fans and well-wishers around the globe and put him and his family through mental agony.
