Injured in group clash, 2 die at Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital
Two men including a senior citizen died at Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital here after they suffered injuries during a violent clash between two groups of fishermen at Gummidipoondi in Tiruvallur district on Sunday night.

The victims were identified as Gunashekaran (70) and Annadurai (45) both from Gummidipoondi. Violence broke out after a group of residents living in Vallambedu near Gummudipoondi raised an objection to the construction of a community hall in their neighbourhood. The protestors claimed that the construction was not being carried out with proper materials. The also alleged that there was mismanagement of funds by the group who were in-charge of the construction.
The verbal duel soon escalated into a physical fight and in the ensuing violence, five persons suffered severe injuries. All the injured persons were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment. Of them, Gunasekaran and Annadurai were referred to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for advance treatment as they suffered critical injury. However, the two passed away on Monday.
The Arambakkam police have registered a case and are investigating. However, no one has been arrested so far in connection with the murder. The police said were admitted with grievous injuries and passed away at 9.30 am on Monday.
