Woman dies after undergoing sterilisation in GH
Tension prevailed for a while at the government hospital in Kumbakonam as irate relatives besieged the hospital when a woman died after allegedly undergoing a sterilisation operation.
“The family members claimed that the woman was a mother of two and demanded action against the doctors responsible for her death and the disbursement of Rs 25 lakh as compensation to the  victim’s family.
The deceased A Loganayaki (25), a resident of Kallur village in Kumbakonam taluk, gave birth to a baby boy just three months prior to the sterilisation surgery. She was also a mother to a one-and-a-halfyear-old girl child. As she already had two children, she decided to undergo sterilisation surgery. Loganayaki was admitted to the district headquarters government hospital in Kumbakonam on November 15. She underwent sterilisation on Saturday. While doctors performed the surgery, her condition suddenly became critical. As her condition got worse, the doctors referred her to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, where she was later admitted. Despite undergoing extensive treatment, Loganayaki’s condition showed no signs of improvement and she died on Sunday.Â
Her relatives alleged that she died due to carelessness and negligence on the part of the doctors who performed the sterilisation and demanded action to be taken against them.  As the agitators also squatted on the road pressing for their demands, vehicular traffic in the area was disrupted for  about an hour. On being informed, Revenue and police officials rushed to the spot, held talks with the agitators and persuaded them to call off their stir with the promise that they would investigate  the matter.Â
