The Madras High Court in an interim order has directed the Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy to include the institute in the counselling to be held on November 30 and admit students for degree courses in Naturopathy and Yoga Sciences for the academic year 2016-17.

Justice B Rajendran before whom the plea filed by the institute came up for hearing, said “When there are admittedly unfilled seats as admitted by the Government, no useful purpose will be solved in keeping the petitioner’s institutions out of the purview of the counselling schedule.”

The Judge while granting relief to the institute also referred to the observation of the first bench headed by Chief Justice that affiliation can be granted to the institute after inspecting it and another order by the second bench directing the authorities to cause appropriate inspection to take a decision on admitting students.

SVS college for Naturopathy and Yoga Science was accorded permission with an annual intake of 50 students in 2008. The institution was enjoying the provisional affiliation till 2015-16, when on January 23, 2016 three of its students died under suspicious circumstances in a private well. The police then have arrested two persons, including the principal of SVS College of Naturopathy and Yoga Science.

A criminal case was registered and a show cause notice was issued as to why it should not be disaffiliated.
