Slice of Life: ‘Want to start state-of-the-art, 24x7 motorbike service centre’

I have always loved motorbikes. When I was still in school, I’d look at images in magazines and papers of men riding those machines and I’d always wonder what it would be like to ride them one day. When I was in school, I started working part-time as a mechanic. I’d keenly watch the nitty-gritty of the trade and learn the details. I’d go there after school got over for the day and return home with greasy hands. I didn’t mind that. When I finished education, I started working as a mechanic immediately. I started working full-time as a mechanic in Chintadripet in 1995. I’d work all day and I enjoyed it. Then I decided to only repair Bullet motorcycles. In my initial years, I would keenly study the bike. Bullets have a charm to them and I love working on them. Now, I specialise in them. My customers know it and they have stayed with me for years. There are many bike enthusiasts in the city who they go on these long road trips across the country. The motorbike has to be in top condition for that. 

All my customers have my mobile number and sometimes they call me and talk out the problems over the phone and I could diagnose the problem. There is a new model every day in the market and they key to success for anyone in this business is keeping up to date. I personally enjoy riding bikes and I have one but I haven’t had the chance to go on a long. My dream is to start a 24x7 workshop and service centre that have state-of-the-art facilities and one-stop destination for bikes.
