VCK up in arms against demonetisation
After CPI (M), the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) held a protest over demonetisation of currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 to stamp out black money by the Centre.

Around 1,000 VCK cadre including women gathered before the Chennai district collector office at 10 am and they raised slogans against the centre. However, the cadre did not resort to a sit-in. Addressing the media, Thol Thirumavalavan, chief, VCK said the Centre’s decision on demonetisation had fuelled stress and mental agony among common people. “The governor of the Reserve Bank of India should take responsibility and resign. Today common people are using money in these denominations, but the Centre failed to sense this fact,” he charged. When asked, the Centre had reduced the amount to Rs 2,000 from Rs 4,500 for exchange of money in banks, the VCK leader said the Centre was taking blatant decisions. Speaking on the fishermen issue, Thirumavalavan hit out at the Lankan Navy, which fired at two fishermen a couple of days back. “Despite repeated talks between the two countries, atrocity of Sri Lankan Navy is continuing. The Centre should insist that Sri Lanka should not indulge in such activities,” he said.
Allow cooperative societies to handle cash transaction, demands Vaiko
The MDMK has condemned the government for not allowing cash exchange in the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies (PACCS) and the Central Cooperative Societies (CCS).
In a statement issued the MDMDK general secretary, Vaiko said he welcomed the move of withdrawing of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes by the Centre. “However, the common man is inconvenienced. Worse, people are not allowed to exchange the cash in 4,474 PACCS and other CCS and those societies are financially crippled,” he stated in the statement. Stating that some people do not operate their bank account but they have accounts in these societies, the former MP said that under such circumstances, these people are struggling to get their money from their savings account. “The farmers are also at the receiving end, as they are unable to pay their debts in the societies,” he said.
Hasty decision cripples business, says PMK
Decision by the Centre to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes has ruined business activities, said PMK leader, S Ramadoss here on Friday . “Though the scrapped currencies are surrendered in banks, the demand of new notes is steadily on the rise crippling day to day business activities due to minimum circulation of currencies,” he said. Financial situation was bad from petty shops to big commercial establishments. “Some shops do not have money to buy necessary things and pay wages to the employees,” the PMK leader said. “Agriculture sector is largely affected, as farmers do not have money to buy fertilisers and pesticides,” he said.
