The shocking incident at the Coimbatore hospital happened close on the heels of a similar incident at the Salem GH. Sources said that a five-member gang, including a woman, who pretended to have just delivered a baby, abducted the infant from the Coimbatore hospital. The entire activity of the woman and her associates was recorded in the CCTV in the hospital.

Police said that R Jothi (23) of Singanallur in Coimbatore got admitted to the CMCH last week and delivered the baby girl on Tuesday. Around 1 pm on Thursday, when Jothi woke up, she was shocked to find the baby missing. After searching for the baby she alerted CMCH Residential Medical Officer R Soundaravel, who in turn lodged a complaint with the Race Course Police. A police team after checking the CCTV footage held an inquiry with Jothi. It came to light that a woman, who was part of the gang, befriended the victim a few days ago.

According to the police, the CCTV grab showed Archana leaving the hospital with the baby along with the gang in a van. In a follow-up action all check posts and patrol units were alerted. Police managed to trace the vehicle of the gang at Vellakinaru near Thudiyalur and rescued the baby.
