Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a private function here, Javadekar said, “Education is not a political agenda, but a national agenda.” Stating that whatever was available on public domain was only a portion of the draft policy and it was not the draft policy, Javadekar said that he has received thousands of suggestions and the draft policy would be prepared only after holding dialogue with all stake holders.
Apparently referring to the reservations expressed by a few states who are up in arms against NEP, the minister quickly added that states like Kerala and Tamil Nadu and some minority institutions have mistaken it for the new education policy and protested the same.
Claiming that over 100 MPs have already evinced interest to participate in a meeting he had called for in the capital on November 10 to discuss the new national education policy, the minister said the MPs who normally do not come for the session have expressed interest to participate in the discussion on the national education policy, which is a national agenda.
Fake institutions will go soon: Minister
After inaugurating the first annual conference on Innovating India’s Schooling, organised by Isha foundation’s Isha Vidhya here, he said there are a lot of bogus educational institutions in the country and the government will take action against them. He said the Education Bill which will be introduced in the next Parliament session will have more concentrate on quality education.
The minister said during the colonial rule, they did not provide education to the rural poor people. For the last 50 years the education has reached all the rural areas and now it is the time to provide quality education as the fifth standard student is unable to read the second standard books. He said the teachers should have updated knowledge to teach the students and the present system of no examination till middle school level will be changed. Javadekar said this country has lot of diversity, but the unity among the people has helped the country for the development in all areas. He recalled that when during the ‘Guru Poornima’ day the teachers wanted to felicitate him but he refused and instead he felicitated the teachers and professors.
Stating that he wants community system in education so that students will come out with more knowledge at all levels, Javadekar added that a special training to the teachers in the rural areas of Himachal Pradesh led to the success rate to 51 percent from mere 11 percent.
The HRD minister said he will welcome any advice and suggestions for the education bill and said it is a challenge to give quality education to over 70-million students. He said all the parents want quality education to their children, but the cost is abnormal in the private institutions. The government is looking into the all aspects to provide quality education to the whole society.
