The police said that the accused A Krishnamoorthy was in an inebriated condition when he committed the murder of his father-in-law P Arumugam alias Arusamy, resulting in the man’s death.
The police said that Arumugam and Krishnamoorthy were living in the same village at Kottur. Both of them were in an inebriated condition while returning home in Krishnamoorthy’s two-wheeler on Thursday night. It is learnt that after an argument, the accused made Arumugam get down from the vehicle in the middle of the road, without taking him to his house. And later a fight broke between them and Krishnamoorthy hit the old man on his head with a stone. He reportedly left the place not knowing that the aged man died.
The next day his relatives assumed that he had been knocked down by a speeding vehicle. The post-mortem also revealed that he suffered a head injury, which could have been in a hit and run incident. Arumugam’s body was buried the same day.
The police said that Krishnamoorthy was not aware this turn of events as he gone elsewhere and returned home only on Saturday morning. Police sources said that he came to his senses and on learning about his father-inlaw’s death, he surrentered before the police.
