BJP nominees hit campaign trail
While the candidates from major parties are going great guns in the election campaign in Aravakurichi, BJP nominee for the constituency commenced his campaign by offering prayers at the Siva temple at Santhapadi Kovilur, in the outskirts of Aravakurichi.

The Aravakurichi candidate Prabhu along with party functionaries went on campaigning in the interior parts of the constituency. Â Five union Ministers including Pon Radhakrishnan, party state unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan would campaign for the party candidates in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur, said party sources. Meanwhile, the Thanjavur BJP candidate MS Ramalingam commenced his campaign from Sivaganai park. The election observer for Thanjavur Sheik Ahmed, visited various polling booths on Friday.Â
The IAS officer from West Bengal inspected the polling booths in Corporation Middle School in Palliagraharam, Sri Krishna Padasala Primary School in Vennatrankarai, Corporation School and Umamaheswara Higher Secondary School in Karanthai, St John-de-Britto School in North Gate area. He inspected whether ramps have been provided for the differently abled and the availability of basic amenities including drinking water and toilets. Later, he saw the display of the election awareness films through the LED display van of DIPR at Thanjavur New Bus stand area.Â
The observer also distributed hand bills extolling public to ensure 100% voting. Â According to a press note from the District administration, public could contact the General Observer Sheik Ahmed through the mobile number 9489009480 for lodging poll complaints. Members of political parties and residents could meet him in person between 4 pm and 5 pm at Thanjavur Travellers bungalow.
