Police release accused, residents picket station

According to the residents, they nabbed a notorious criminal Vijayan. who was involved in a series of crimes, at Kurinji Nagar yesterday. He was handed over to the Lawspet police. However, they reportedly released him within fifteen minutes. Earlier, Vijayan along with his friends had abused and threatened people at Kurinji Nagar. Notwithstanding his misbehaviour, the residents apprehended him and handed him over to the police. But the police released him, little thinking about the efforts of the public.

Irate over this, the people gathered this morning and picketed the Lawspet police station. As tension prevailed, senior police officials intervened and ordered the immediate arrest of Vijayan, following which he was arrested. Later, people called off their stir.
