    7 held for assault in 2 separate cases

    In two separate incidents, the police arrested seven persons for assault after quarrels broke out over bursting cracker during Deepavali.

    The Thousand Lights police arrested four persons for attacking a neighbour after a quarrel erupted on Sunday. The police arrested S Pazhani (32), D Aneesh (19), Pullan alias Syam Sundar (24) and his brother S Shankar, all residents of Ambedkar Colony, Wallace Garden for assaulting N Saravana Kumar (22) of the same area. 

    Police said the gang attacked Saravana when he objected to them creating a ruckus by bursting loud crackers near his house during Deepavali. Saravana suffered bleeding injuries in the clash and was admitted to the Government Royapettah Hospital. Based on a complaint filed by him, the police arrested the accused and later remanded them to judicial custody.

    Meanwhile, the Selaiyur police on Saturday night arrested three persons for assaulting a youth for bursting crackers. The police arrested R Karthikeyan (26) of Bharathi Nagar, Perumbakkam, M Muthukrishnan (27), Vijayanagaram and K Govindarajan (64) for assaulting N Vignesh Babu (21).

    Police said Vignesh was bursting crackers in front of his house at around 7.30 pm and the accused were having a conversation in a nearby location. The trio objected to Vignesh Babu bursting crackers and asked him to stop. Vignesh did not pay heed to their warning and continued to burst crackers. The trio approached Vignesh and assaulted him. Vignesh suffered bleeding injuries and was admitted to a hospital. He later lodged a complaint with the Selaiyur police. The police tracked down the assailants and remanded them to judicial custody.
