For, many multinationals such as KAVO G C, Ivoclar – Vivadent, Dentsply, 3M, Nobel Biocare, Mecktron, Sirona and Aceton, have set up offices in India. An increase in customers, technology advancements and exposure to digital medium is shaping the way business is being done. With the healthcare market projected to touch $280 billion by 2020, a report of the Indian Dental Association gives an overview of the dental health sub-sector, pegging growth rates to be 20-30 pc for the dental product segment in the coming years.

Annually, the dental equipment and materials market is estimated to be $90 million. Eyeing the huge potential, Rajan Dental Hospital of Chennai has entered a threeyear collaboration with European brand Malo. “Our tie-up with leaders in dental Implantology and world’s largest dental hospital from Europe, Malo Clinic gives us access to technological advancements and European protocols for providing advanced dental treatments in India.

Rajan-Malo Clinic will be establishing premium dental clinics across India. Dentists and para-dental staff in Rajan Dental Hospital will be trained by Malo Clinic, in Europe, in advanced dental treatments, laboratory technology, and advanced implantology,” Dr Gunaseelan Rajan said. “While Indian brands may have earned the trust, association with European brands adds standards. We pioneered the dental implant center for hi-tech Implantology,” he said, adding the association had firmed up after a meeting with Dr Paulo Malo at New York in April this year. It would enable “faster technology transfer.” Inspired by brands such as Aravind Eye and Narayana Hrudayalaya to provide affordable oral care, Dr Rajan said, “The tie-up will lower the treatment cost by 25 per cent. In the long run, volumes will help us to offer procedures at half the cost.”

So far, the hospital has completed 5,000 implants that include complex ones like zygoma. Over 200 complex procedures in the last five years have been done, and nearly 50 per cent of its patient base was below 45 years. A full jaw implant would cost Rs 5 lakh. But Swedish implants cost twice as much as Israeli implants, its CEO T K Karunanidhi said. The Rs 10-crore Rajan Dental Hospital is targeting a turnover of Rs 60 crore in two years’ time. “We are planning to do 100 full-mouth rehabilitation procedures every month. We have tied up with Arogya Finance to assist patients seeking phased payments,” he added.
