VCK bows to PWF decision, skips meet

The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), a constituent of the People’s Welfare Front (PWF), said that though it had made efforts to convince its partners to attend the meeting, the party itself boycotted it to “avoid” unnecessary confusion ahead of the November 19 polls to three Assembly seats in the state.

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan in a letter to Stalin said his party had tried to convince the other partners in the PWF to participate in the meeting, but the majority view was against it and that VCK was abiding by it.

PWF’s participation in the meeting will give “confusing signals” to party workers ahead of the elections to Thanjavur and Aravakurichi, besides the by-poll to Tiruparankundram, all slated in November. PWF is not fielding candidates in either of the seats.

Earlier, the political circles of Tamil Nadu were abuzz over VCK’s willingness to attend the meeting as it was seen as a sign of getting close to former ally DMK. However, the MDMK led by Vaiko expressed strong opposition to PWF attending the meeting.

The other partners of the front, the two Left parties, right from the beginnning maintained that they would hold consultations within their parties and announce the decision to other members of the PWF.
