He also has sought an explanation from the station house officers asking them why they did not act against the personnel who were involved in the act. DTNext had exposed this ‘deal’ of policemen after the Tamil Nadu Milk Agents and Employees Welfare Association lodged a complaint with the Tamil Nadu DGP and the CoP a few day ago.

Sources said that following a report in this paper, the commissioner issued memos to inspectors and have told them that strict departmental action would be taken against those indulging in such practices.

He had also demanded a reply from officials regarding the status of a previous complaint lodged by the association. He sought to know what follow up action was taken by the officials on that complaint.

Intelligence officials have also put out a report regarding the ‘deal’, exposing the wrong doing of police personnel, who usually demand minimum one litre of milk from each vendor. It is mostly the cops on night patrol, allegedly demand the milk sachets from vendors.

The association had alleged that each team thus collect 20 to 30 sachets every day and sell them at a lesser rate to make a quick buck. The association in its complaint had claimed that policemen sold these sachets between Rs 15 and Rs 17 against their original price of Rs 20 per sachet (500 ml). Through this sale, each police team earned anywhere between Rs 375 and Rs 425 a day.

“The Commissioner has taken a serious note of the deal and issued a memo. It was a stringent caution and he has warned stern action if he comes across a similar complaint against any police personnel. A former complaint given by the association is also being pursued,” a senior police official said.
