Shilpa C, a self-taught artist who experiments with cards, flower vases and photo frames, says art needs only a little bit of creativity.

Shilpa, who has anchored television shows related to her area of interest,  has been conducting summer classes in many schools. Even art teachers  have attended her classes that she has been conducting for the last two years. “It is essential for children to be well-versed in at least one art. It greatly improves their concentration. Art teachers have a great role to play in this development,” she adds. She wants every school to invest in hiring an arts teacher. “Art plays a great role in improving a child’s personality,” she says. “Many parents feel their children are hyper active, and art lessons such as making flower vases and cards are a good way of channelising their energies,” she feels.

Shilpa does not stop with ideating for the gifts, she handles workshops for IT employees, once a month. Employees of Accenture, Infosys and other IT companies say the workshops helped them relax. “We were taught glass painting, jewellery, fabric painting and pot painting.  It was fun,” says Kalaiselvi of Accenture who attended a workshop.
