Krishna water flows into Poondi

The AP irrigation department, on October 10, released 200 cusec of Krishna water, as per a pact between the two states. Since the quantum of water was very low, the flow of water slowed down in the 152-km long Kandaleru-Poondi (KP) canal and PWD officials in the beginning said water would reach in five days. However, water reached zero point only on October 18. Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh officials increased the quantum of water being released to 800 cusec on Wednesday, said the PWD officials. 

“Krishna water reached Poondi reservoir at 7.20 am on Thursday and however, the flow was very low. Though the AP irrigation officials released 800 cusec the level of inflow at zero point (Uthukottai) is merely 95.54 cusec,” said a PWD engineer. 

He added that they expected an increase in the inflow in the coming days. Meanwhile, the AP irrigation department officials visited the KP canal on Thursday afternoon and they along with Tamil Nadu PWD officials conducted an inspection along the canal. “Superintending Engineer, Sanyasi Naidu (Telugu Ganga Project) from AP along with other engineers visited the KP canal and Poondi reservoir, after which we also travelled along with them to inspect the canal,” said another engineer.
