    Dalit life convict dies in Madurai

    A 64-year-old Dalit life convict prisoner had died in a suspicious manner inside the Madurai Central Prison. His relatives suspect foul play in his death.

    Police said that Marimuthu was in prison since 1990 for his involvement in a murder case. As he was aging, he suffered from coronary artery disease and blood pressure owing to which he was undergoing treatment at prison hospital located inside the Madurai Central Prison. On Thursday, when he went to the bathroom he collapsed. Doctors checked him and he was rushed to the Madurai GRH, but he was declared brought dead, the police said. Following the death, based on the complaint from Dharmaraj, Prisoner (In-charge), a case of suspicious death under section 176 of IPC was booked by police and they were investigating. Meanwhile, the news of the death of Marimuthu was conveyed to his relatives. They suspected foul play in his death and said that though Marimuthu had minor health issues, he was healthy when they met his previously. They claimed that he had some dispute with some other prison inmate and hence they suspected foul play in his death. They demanded that action should be taken on the officials responsible for the death of Marimuthu.
