It is said, in the past few days, fever cases were reported in Ponmalai region. On Saturday, the Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran visited the Ponmalai workshop along with the chief health officer (CHO). On Sunday, the district Collector KS Palanisamy visited the area and instructed the public to be aware of the measures to prevent dengue.
Meanwhile, around 24 persons were suspected to have tested positive for dengue. Nine of them, all North Indian workers, were admitted in the ICU of Ponmalai Railway hospital. On Tuesday, the CHO Dr Geetha Rani went to the railway hospital for inspection. However, it is said, Dr Jose Antony Ezhilarasan who was on duty denied her permission and reportedly used abusive words against her. He also recorded the conversation in his mobile.
Geetha Rani lodged a complaint against the duty doctor with the chief doctor there and with the City Commissioner of Police Manjunatha. Since there was no action, the CHO on Wendesday approached the City Commissioner for action.
When contacted Dr. Geetha Rani said the workers had a mysterious fever but they were not infected with dengue. She also said that she wanted to take action against the doctor as for no specific reason, the medical practitioner started video recording her conversation. “Even as I insisted that I was at the Ponmalai hospital for an inspection following instructions from the district collector, the concerned prevented me, stating that the premises belong to railway management”, she said.
