Junior Correspondent: Storm water drains in Perambur cause for worry

Chennai
I live in Perambur and during last year’s flood, the water in my street was above four feet. Though we did not have to vacate the house I couldn’t sleep peacefully thinking about my friends and hoping that they would be safe. It also made me wonder about how real climate change is and where as a city we have failed. I read in the newspapers that the storm water drain system failed us.Â
It is only after the disaster we saw that only certain areas in my neighbourhood had storm water drains laid and I wonder about the rest of the stretches. Monsoon is arriving and I pray that this time, the situation will be under control.Â
Now that we know that climate change is a real threat, we school students must learn about it in depth and pursue a career in areas that will make the earth a better place to live.
