S Rajendran, a resident of Ayyampalayam had contended that the ECI while postponing and subsequently cancelling the general elections at Aravakurchi on May 16, had in their orders on May 14 and May 27 extensively considered the unethical, undemocratic and unprecedented corrupt practices indulged in by candidates from both the parties.

Hence, allowing such candidates to contest again would tantamount to making a mockery of the election, the petitioner said. The plea sought for an interim direction to reject the nomination of AIADMK candidate V Senthil Balaji and DMK candidate K C Palaniswamy as it would result in permitting them to play truant on the people and the constitution.

The petitioner has further stated that respondents Senthil Balaji and K C Palanisamy were the root cause for the postponement and subsequent cancellation of the election for Aravakurichi constituency at a huge cost and if they were allowed to act as law makers, the consequence would be dangerous. He also said the election commission should exercise its independency to protect the people of Tamil Nadu by taking in to consideration of the future of the country.
