An 18-year-old student from Tirupur, who was pursuing his engineering degree at the SRM University in Kattankulathur, near here, committed suicide by hanging at his hostel room, police said on Monday.
Chennai
Logesh Guhan, who was pursuing his B Tech in nanotechnology, stayed at the university hostel and shared a room with his friends Akhil and Vijay Bhaskar. All the three students had gone home for the puja holidays last week and Guhan had returned to the hostel on Sunday morning, while his roommates had planned to return two days later.
Students at the hostel said that they had last seen Guhan on the campus on October 15 after he had returned from
home. On Monday morning, when his roommate Bhaskar returned after the holidays, he found that the hostel room was locked from inside and foul smell emanating from inside.
“When they opened the window and checked, the students found Guhan’s body hanging from the roof,” a police official said.
However, no suicide note has been recovered from the room and the police are yet to ascertain the exact cause of his suicide.
“The boy had fractured his leg a year ago and had to discontinue the course for a while. His friend said that he had been depressed since then,” the Maramalai Nagar police said.
A case has been registered under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code and investigations are on.
