The World Forum of Fisher People (WFFP) has declared November 15-21 as Global week of action against Ocean Grabbing and would hold various activities in the member countries.

According to M Illango, Chairperson of the National Fish Workers Forum (NFF), who partook in the WFFP meeting held for 10 days in Sri Lanka, the forum decided to consider the period from November 21 to December 31 this year as the first round of protest action and the period from January 1 to November 21 next year as the second round of action.Â
Illango said an international convention shall be held in November 2017 at New Delhi on ocean, coast and coastal water bodies grabbing, in which international delegates as well as Indian action groups would take part, Illango told. The WFFP also discussed about the International Ocean Conference, to be held in Bali of Indonesia on February 28, 2017.
Taking strong exception for the failure to invite fishermen representatives for the conference and inviting only representatives of governments and corporate houses that are after usurpation of the coastal resources, the WFFP has decided to organise protests against the conference.
