They appealed to him to convene a special session of the State Assembly and adopt a resolution, besides convening an all party meeting to discuss the vexatious Cauvery issue.

Mr Stalin, accompanied by DMK Deputy leader in the Assembly Duraimurugan, along with former Minister K Ponmudy and MLAs, met Mr Panneerselvam and Mr Palaniswami at the State Secretariat and handed over the copies of the resolution adopted at yesterday's  meeting the DMK held with various farmers' organisations and associations over the cauvery issue.

The resolution also urged the State government to take steps facilitate a meeting of leaders of all parties and representatives of various farmers' associations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to impress upon him on the need to protect the livelihood of the State farmers and set up the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) as directed by the Supreme Court and mandated by the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Mr Stalin said both the Ministers have promised to consider the resolution.

Observing that approaching the Cauvery issue through legal means was different, he said "like Karnataka, where all parties were united on the Cauvery issue, we should also come together in an all-party meeting."

Mr. Stalin said the copes of the resolutions were also sent to the office of the Chief Secretary P Ramamohana Rao.

The resolution adopted at the meeting also condemned Karnataka's repeated refusal to implement the Supreme Court orders on release of waters to Tamil Nadu and urged the Centre to constitute the CMB and the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee immediately to save the livelihood of the farmers in delta districts.
