Justice R Mala before whom the bail plea by Vikash Anand came up said, “Taking into consideration of the fact that the petitioner is a law college student and his examinations are scheduled to be held between October 7 to October 18 and also considering his future I am inclined to grant him interim bail from October 07 to October 20.”

However, the judge then directed him to execute a personal bail bond for Rs.10,000/- with two sureties each like sum to the satisfaction of XVIII MM Saidapet. She also directed him to surrender before the same Magistrate on October 21 at 10.30 AM. The Judge then posted the matter for further hearing to October 21.

Vikash, a professional car racer and a resident of T Nagar, and his friend Charan Kumar were returning after attending a party thrown by Tuti Patriots, who won the TN Premier League final held at Chepauk when the accident happened on the R K Salai. Both of them were said to be drunk. The car rammed the median and ploughed through autorickshaws parked on the roadside.

It may be noted that a session court here had declined to grant bail to the duo. Subsequently, a blame game emerged with Charan blaming Vikash for the accident.

Charan in his bail plea at the High Court said it was Anand who had caused the accident and it was wrong on the part of the police to claim that he had asked Anand not to stop the car after the accident.
