ATM heist: Driver surrenders in court
The driver of a cash transit vehicle, who drove away with Rs 1.18 crore of cash while his colleagues were replenishing cash at an ATM at suburban Velappanchavadi on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway on Monday evening.

On Thursday he surrendered before a court at Srivakuntam in Thoothukudi district. Sources said, special police teams were formed to crack the case. They stepped up the probe and detained his family members for questioning. The driver, Esakimuthu, produced himself before the Srivaikundam court and surrendered.Â
Logicash, a leading cash management service provider, picked up over Rs 2 crore from its office and after refilled the cash in a few ATMs. The vehicle stopped in front of an ATM at Velappanchavadi to refill the cash. While two staff members went into the ATM to refill the cash, the driver, Esakimuthu, asked gunman Joel, to accompany him for a cup of tea located on the other side of the road. When Joel crossed the road, Esaki fled away with the vehicle. A few hours later, the vehicle was found abandoned near a village, but the cash was missing.Â
The city police have formed five special teams to nab him and they also went to his native place, when he surrendered before the court.
