Rain forecast for next two days in State
The weather office here has forecast rains for the next two days in different parts of the State.

Sources said that the showers were due to the effect of the southwest monsoon that has been active over Telangana. Â Rainfall occurred at many places in the interior parts of the state during the last 24 hours. Similar activities would be witnessed in the next two days too, sources added. There is heavy rain predicted at some places over north Tamil Nadu.Â
The present showers have come as a relief to most parts of the state which have reeling under severe heat for the past couple of weeks. In fact, this kind of rise in mercury is an unusual phenomenon in this part of the year.Â
Farmers in the State, are anxiously awaiting the arrival of northeast monsoon to protect the standing crops, especially paddy.
Following is the amount of rainfall (in centimetres) recorded in various places in the State: Manamadurai Devakottai (both Sivaganga dist), Gingee (Villupuram Dist), Marakkanam (Villupuram dist) and Puducherry 5 each, Cheyyur (Kancheepuram dist), Sivaganga (Sivaganga dist) 3 each, Thiruchuzhi (Virudhunagar dist), Vanur (Villupuram dist), Tindivanam (Villupuram dist), Mannargudi (Tiruvarur dist), Mylam (Villupuram dist) 2 each, Thanjavur (Thanjavur dist), Tirupattur (Vellore dist), Polur (Tiruvannamalai dist), Paramakudi (Ramanathapuram dist), Tirupathur pto (Vellore dist), Tirumayam (Pudukkottai dist) 1 each.
