A Theni-based bus owner had filed a petition against the personnel assistant of former Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, claiming that he had cheated him to the tune of Rs 90 lakhs by promising him to get permission for operating buses in Yanam, an enclave of Pudhucherry.

KKD Pandian in his petition claimed that NP Sambath Kumar, PA in 2007 had showed a notification of Puducherry government that persons interested can apply for bus route between Yanam and Rajahmundry and asked him to apply. Sambath Kumar had also promised him to get the permission for bus route and had demanded Rs 1.05 crores.

The bus owner gave the amount in three dues and was waiting for the permission. But in the meantime the regime of Rangasamy had changed. He realised that the permission could not be obtained and hence asked for the amount to be returned. Initially the PA was evasive and then through mediation with influential persons he agreed to return the amount.

When the PA delayed, the bus owner insisted him to return the amount as early as possible and initially the PA had returned Rs 15 lakhs. When the remaining Rs 90 lakhs was asked, the PA gave five bank cheques, but they bounced when submitted for realisation. Later when contacted, he did not answer him and when inquired it was found that he had absconded. Later the bus owner realised that he was cheated to the tune of Rs 90 lakhs and had approached the Madurai bench.

Pandian had also prayed the High Court to issue a direction to Theni Police to file a case and to get the pending amount due to him back.
