Petrol bombs hurled at police station
Tension is brewing between the local residents and police at Kannagi Nagar, after some assailants threw petrol bombs into the police station around 3.30 am on Sunday. Nine two-wheelers parked inside the station compound were charred in the subsequent fire, which was brought under control by the fire service personnel.

Police have launched a hunt for the suspects who are said to be local rowdies.The standoff between a section of residents in Kannagi Nagar and the police started when a local resident, who was picked up for a robbery case at Thoraipakkam, died in police custody at Kannagi Nagar on Tuesday. A huge gathering, allegedly family members of history sheeters and hardened criminals, held protests in front of the Kannagi Nagar police station. Some of them alleged that police have been picking up youth from the area for any crime in the city and foisting false cases on them.
The stand-off between the two intensified on Sunday, when a group of miscreants hurled petrol bombs. Jagadeeshan, a sentry on duty found a two-wheeler burning following the noise of a bottle falling in the compound. He could not douse the flames. Firemen from Thoraipakkam fire station rushed to the spot and put out the flames. However, nine two wheelers were completely charred in the fire accident. Police sources said the accused have been identified and the arrests will be recorded soon.
