Dindigul BJP office hit, leader’s car burnt
Miscreants attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office and the car of a senior BJP functionary with petrol bombs in Dindigul on Sunday. The attacks led to tension in the communally sensitive district.
Madurai
Around midnight, in the first incident, miscreants set a car belonging to B.G. Bose, a state executive committee member of the BJP, on fire. They had poured petrol over the bonnet and windshield of the car and torched it.
Neighbours alerted Bose and the police about the burning car. The fire was doused, but the front portion of the car was completely damaged by that time. Following the incident Police investigated the spot and found an empty can. Then a case was booked.
While the tension of the late night attack was yet to subsidise, some miscreants hurled petrol bombs at the BJP district party office on the Dindigul-Karur Main Road in the morning.
People spotted a gang in two bikes throwing something on the shutters of the office.
Before they could respond, the gang managed to escape. It was learnt that BJP party men used to stay at the office at night and luckily no one stayed overnight on Saturday.
The daring attack in a crowded place led to tension and many shops in the near-by areas were closed following the incidents.
Senior police officials visited the BJP office and the house of Bose. Forensic experts and sleuths of Tamil Nadu Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad also held inquiry.
A large number of policemen were deployed in the sensitive areas to prevent untoward incidents. Special teams have been formed to nab the miscreants.
It may be recalled that S Sankar Ganesh (27), Dindigul District Executive Committee Member of the Hindu Munnani was attacked with lethal weapons by an unidentified gang in Dindigul town last Monday.
A senior BJP functionary Bose has received threats to his life earlier too.
BJP demonstration on September 28

In a statement here, the BJP state president said workers from Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur units of the BJP would participate in a demonstration called by the Hindu Munnani at Valluvar Kottam in the city. Elsewhere in the state, the BJP workers would organise the demonstrations at various places, demanding action against those involved in the attacks on Hindu leaders.
