‘Allot seats as per reservation policy’
The University of Madras will send a circular to all its affiliated private arts and colleges asking them adhere to government’s reservation policy in admissions and display the merit list accordingly.

During the University’s Academic Council meeting on Saturday, some members alleged that few private arts and science colleges affiliated to the University failed to display the list of students from BC, MBC, SC and ST communities admitted in the college, on the institution’s notice board and their respective websites.
Dr S Devadoss, former director of the National Institute of Fashion Technology and a member of the academic council said that all private arts and science colleges should display the list of candidates admitted from the minority sections, for which the university should send a circular to the colleges to ensure that they adhere to the government’s reservation policy.
Dr S Karunanidhi, Head of the University’s Psychology department, who was elected as chairman for the Saturday’s academic council meeting said that the university would send circular to all colleges asking them to follow government’s order on reservation policy for admissions. Few members raised an issue that the university is yet to nominate its representative in some colleges to the governing body that ensures that all government policies are implemented.
Dr J Gandhiraj, a faculty from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College in the city said that as the university failed to nominate its nominee in their college, it also makes it difficult to appoint new faculty. “Whenever we ask about it we are informed that as the vice-chancellor’s post is vacant it is taking some time, so I urge the university to resolve the issue at the earliest,” he said.
