Justice M Sathyanarayanan granted the injunction while passing interim orders on a writ petition from Bharathi Rajendran of Hiranandhini Upscale School Parents Association.

The petition prayed for a direction to the two authorities to withdraw the introduction of mandatory lunch for the children of the school run by Hiranandhini Upscale School Foundation in Kelambakkam near Chennai.

The judge, in his order held that a prima facie case has been made out for grant of interim injunction for the reason that the circular issued by the CBSE only mandated a particular institution/school to inspect the lunch box for unhealthy food, but did not compel the students to take lunch or snacks provided by the school by paying charges. The matter is posted for hearing to September 29.
