Soundarya clarifies on AWBI role
Days after actor Rajinikanth’s younger daughter Soundarya was inducted as co-opted member of Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and Performing Animals Sub-Committee, jallikattu enthusiasts on Tuesday resorted to burning the pictures of her and demanded that she step down. However, Soundarya has clarified on her role with AWBI.

The contention of protestors is that the sub-committee has been firmly opposing the conduct of jallikattu, a traditional sport in Tamil Nadu.
Members of the Tamilar Veeravilayaatu Meetpu Kazhagam also raised slogans demanding Soundarya Rajinikanth to dissociate herself from AWBI. They argued her stand on the issue contradicts to that of her father Rajinikanth.
“The Superstar himself has acted as a bull tamer in Murattu Kaalai to win the hearts of rural youth in Tamil Nadu and his role in the movie continues to be an inspiration for youngsters involving in bull taming for decades. So, his daughter having been appointed as AWBI member is extremely unacceptable,” they said.
Meanwhile, Soundarya Rajinikanth in a statement has clarified that her role in AWBI is restricted only to verifying whether animals have been abused in films.
“Since Soundarya has a sound knowledge in graphics and animation and having directed a fulllength feature film using motion-capture technology, AWBI has chosen her for the role,” the statement said.
