Police arrested a young couple in Madurai for cheating engineering graduates to the tune of Rs 4.44 lakh by promising them jobs in foreign countries. Apart from the cash they also took the original certificates of the victims along with them.
Madurai
The accused Senthil Kumar (31) and his wife Karthika from Vandiyur in Madurai have promised jobs in foreign countries for Engineering graduates and had approached Aathi Murugan, a batch mate of Senthil Kumar to refer candidates.
Unsuspecting of their intentions, Aathi Murugan contacted his friends and relatives and collected the amount demanded by the couple to process their applications for the promised foreign jobs.Â
A total of Rs 4.44 lakh was obtained from 12 persons by Aathi Murugan and was handed over to Senthil Kumar. Along with the cash, the original educational certificates of the 12 persons were also obtained by the couple from Aathi Murugan.Â
Though they collected the money early in May they took no action to get the promised jobs and when the friends and relatives of Aathi Murugan questioned him about the jobs, he approached Senthil Kumar and asked him to return the cash and certificates. But Senthil Kumar kept evading Aathi Murugan and did not give him a proper reply or the money.Â
Aathi Murugan grew suspicious when Senthil Kumar did not attend his calls and hence lodged a complaint with the police. Based on the complaint police booked a case and arrested the couple.Â
