Students bring laurels to Sathyabama University by cracking into top firms
To promote research and follow the vision of its Founder-Chancellor Dr Jeppiaar, the Sathyabama University has instituted Colonel Dr Jeppiaar Award for Excellence in Research this year.

The award, the brain child of the university directors’ Dr Marie Johnson and Dr Mariazeena Johnson was presented to Dr T Stalin Dhas, Scientist-B, Centre for ocean research at Sathyabama University during the 25th convocation on September 16. Dr Stalin Dhas was awarded with a memento, for his commendable research in nanotechnology for biomedical applications.Â
The University conferred honorary doctorate on Sarat Kumar Acharya, Chairman and Managing Director of Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd., (Human Resource Policy implementation). Ranjini Manian, Managing Director, Global Adjustments was also conferred the honorary doctorate (Cross Cultural Services) in recognition for their conscientious work in their respective fields.Â
RS Sundar, Director of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant and outstanding scientist took part in the convocation as chief guest and delivered the convocation address. He also awarded degrees to the graduates.Â
Remibai Jeppiaar, Chancellor of the University presided over the function with the divine blessings of Colonel Dr Jeppiaar, Founder-Chancellor of the University.Â
As many as 2,659 undergraduates, 455 postgraduate students, 95 Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and 123 PhD scholars received their degrees during the convocation. Among them, 36 meritorious students were also bestowed with gold medals for their outstanding performance in academics, research and publications. More than 3,000 students received their degree during this milestone occasion.Â
The Sathyabama University has marked a milestone in its history by launching a satellite ‘Sathyabamasat’ on June 22, 2016, the dream project and vision of Dr Jeppiaar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the university’s young scientist who developed the satellite and appreciated the successful launch of the Nano satellite. Modi made a mention about the satellite in his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast.Â
The university has also been successful with 90.28 per cent students being placed in 2015-2016 academic year. The companies who recruited Sathyabama students include, Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro, Oracle, Tech Mahindra, Cap gemini, Oracle, Virtusa, Payoda and RBS. Out of the 1,812 registered students, 1,636 got placed in these top companies. VS Achuth Chandrasekhar, a student of Mechanical and Production department at the University has been recruited by Indian Navy with the highest salary package.
