Speaking on the side lines of the inauguration of the implementation of RAA through Tamil Nadu state directorate of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in three schools in the city on Tuesday, Dr S Vincent, Dean (Research) at Loyola College said that the RMSA state directorate and Loyola College have jointly initiated the programme to provide expertise to school teacher in science.
Jai Gopal Garodia Girls Higher Secondary School (JGGHSS), Choolaimedu, Government Higher Secondary School, MMDA-2, Arumbakkam and Chennai Higher Secondary School, Shenoy Nagar are the three schools, which Loyola College will help as part of RAA project.Â
“Today there are several technologies like Nano technology, cloning and clean technology, which are included in text books, but with less expertise teachers find it difficult to excite students. Keeping this in mind we will provide input to teachers by identifying difficult portions in their textbooks and help them understand the concepts. We hope that this will help students learn science in a better way,” he said.Â
Dr Vincent added that this programme would help teachers to teach with full understanding of the concepts and create a platform for the faculty from Loyola to train teachers and their students.Â
K Muthuswamy, administration officer at state RMSA directorate said that colleges and universities would guide schools in their neighbourhoods as part of RAA.Â
“RAA is aimed at two subjects—Science and Maths, to enhance schooling experience to teachers and students, besides training teachers in modern technology. Students could utilise the expertise of expert faculty,” he said.Â
R Bagyalakshmi, science teacher at JGGHSS, says “We can get to know the latest in science and technology and take our students to their advanced labs,” she said.
