Engineering students, professor develop traffic management system

Aashish V Anand and Om Prakash S, the two student innovators were guided by B Bhuvaneswaran, Assistant Professor at Rajalakshmi Engineering College to develop the system. Aashish says that he and his teammate had come up with this system after looking at traffic snarls in the country and aimed to effectively manage traffic systems. 

“Traffic signal systems function in a particular manner and change of signals occur at regular intervals. When an ambulance or a fire service vehicle is not able to travel fast due to the traffic jams we need to help them move quickly without getting stuck in traffic jam,” he said. 

According to the innovator, a raspberry-pi micro computer with Internet connection is fixed in the traffic signal, which receives real-time data from Google map servers . 

“This could save time as we need not wait long at the signals and effectively control the traffic as we dynamically change the timing of signals based on real-time data,” said Bhuvaneswaran.
