Marine Fisheries Census from February 1
The census is a comprehensive exercise to collect data and demographics regarding people involved in the marine fishing sector and their ecosystems.

The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, a research body under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR-CMFRI), will commence the National Marine Fisheries Census-2016 from February 1 to March 1, 2016 in all maritime states and two Union Territories in the country. Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep will be enumerated under the supervision of Fishery Survey of India.Â
The month-long marine fisheries census is being conducted on a total expenditure of Rs 3.8 crore. The exercise includes collecting information about marine fishermen families, fishing crafts and gears, social and educational profile and demographic features of marine fishing villages. The last census was conducted in 2010.
