Madras University forms 3-member team to function in absence of Vice Chancellor
Following the end of the tenure of the present VC Prof R Thandavan’s on January 17, the varsity has formed a three-person committee until the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor.

The Madras University Syndicate on Monday constituted a three member convener’s committee to function in the absence of vice-chancellor (VC) as the tenure of the present VC Prof R Thandavan’s term ended on January 17.
University registrar Prof P David Jawahar said that higher education secretary Apoorva was nominated as the convenor of the committee with the director of collegiate education and professor & head of the microbiology at Madras University Thangam Menon being named as other committee members.
“The committee taking charge with immediate effect, will perform the day-to-day duties of the VC till the incumbent assumes charge,” Prof Jawahar said.
The meeting according to a Syndicate member discussed various modalities of appointing the committee.
It may be pointed out that the state government constituted a three-member search panel on January 7 to recommend names of three persons to the Governor-Chancellor Dr K Rosaiah to choose one from the list as VC.
PN Veda Narayan is the convenor of the panel with Prof R Balasubramanian and R. Surendira Prasad being members.
