Police had picked up four persons on Sunday early morning but has recorded the arrest of two persons. Police suggested political rivalry behind the attack. According to police two masked men had hurled two country bombs at the Assembly constituency office of the Minister. One of the bombs exploded with a loud noise and the front door of the office was completely damaged. The same gang then went to the AIADMK office and hurled two petrol bombs.
The attacks were carried out around 1 pm on Sunday, police said. Minister Chellur Raju rushed to the spot and inspected the areas. He said his political rivals were unhappy about 25,000 college students joining AIADMK and wanted to stop them from joining. He said the youngsters were impressed with the governance of AIADMK and wanted to join the party. The rivals had been targeting him for taking the initiative and could have attacked his office there.
Police said since the attacks were carried out during night time, nobody got hurt. Police confirmed that the explosives used were country bombs as they had recovered boulder pieces, glass pieces and nails from the explosion site.
