Goverment schools to get Annual Day funds
In a step forward for government schools, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan directorate has assured funds to be released for conducting annual day celebrations in elementary and middle schools this year
Chennai
With an aim to nurture the talent of students in government elementary and middle schools in Tamil Nadu, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) directorate has asked these schools to celebrate Annual Day this year for which the directorate would release funds.
SSA State project director, Pooja Kulkarni said that students from several private schools get an opportunity to take part in their institution’s respective annual day every year while not many government schools get to hold such celebrations. “We want to make sure that students from government schools don’t get deprived of the opportunity to celebrate their school’s annual day.
We also want to encourage students from these schools to take part in the events and showcase their talents, which need to be nurtured,” she said.
Officials have instructed school heads to use the occasion to create awareness about the RTE (Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education) Act among the public. They have also asked schools to invite educationists to participate in such functions. Schools were also ordered to make sure that members from the school management committee and parents attended the function.
