    High Court questions multiple FIRs

The High Court while hearing actor Simbu’s anticipatory bail plea, on Monday, wondered why multiple FIRs have been filed for the same offence. The court said that since all offences against the actor are bailable he can approach a magistrate court for bail.

Justice B Rajendran, before whom the case came up for hearing, also ruled that Simbu instead of appearing before the police in Coimbatore and Chennai could appear before the Chennai police on January 11.

Earlier, elaborate arguments took place with Senior Counsel R Muthukumaraswamy making it clear that all charges levelled against Simbu were bailable and there was no need for custodial interrogation.

Claiming that the prosecution fear that Simbu might abscond was baseless, the senior counsel claimed that being an actor “he can’t disappear and he is willing to abide by any conditions as imposed by the court.”

Public Prosecutor Shamnmuga Velayutham submitted that the song  could not be called a “beep song” as the beep did not hide the said offensive word.  The judge on ascertaining from the public prosecutor that all charges against the actor were bailable, said since the court had no jurisdiction to grant bail, the actor could approach the relevant magistrate court and obtain the necessary relief.
