‘Mythology Revisited’, an art show as part of Revive Chennai, by Rotary Club of Chennai East RA Puram will raise funds to help the flood-affected. The show will be held at Art Houz from January 6-20. Curator Kalpana Yuvarraaj of Artists’ Conclave talks about the show.
Chennai
What is the idea behind Revive Chennai? Who are the people associated with it?
Soon after the floods, Rotary Club of Chennai East RA Puram has been looking at pitching in with aid. We have been putting together kits with essential and utility items. However, we realised that since we wanted to reach out to a larger section of people, we have to raise a considerable sum. Artists’ Conclave and the club have joined hands to raise funds.
Who are the artists participating in the show?
There are 20 artists taking part in the show, including three sculptors. To name a few, we have Dakshinamurthy, Natesh Muthuswamy, Rajny Krishnan, Manisha Raju and Sonali Mohanty.
Why did you choose mythology as a theme for this show?
This is the season of dance and music that is deeply entrenched in mythology. We wanted to take the diversity in mythology to the younger audience. From the Sundarakandam in Ramayanam to the significance of lotus in Buddhism, we are focusing on a number of aspects of mythology in the Indian context.
