Soon after the raids in Chennai and Palani, the investigating agency also registered a disproportionate assets case against Krishnaswamy and 5 others, including his 3 daughters, father-in-law and a money lender based in Chenani.

CBI sources told dtNext that Krishnaswamy had acquired property worth over Rs 7 crore and purchased them in the names of his daughters, father-in-law and in the name of a family trust.

Sources said Krishnaswamy acquired these properties when he was the IT commissioner for appeals. CBI has seized several property documents from the house and office of Krishnaswamy at Teynampet, Chennai in addition to documents from the house of a money lender from R A Puram.

About 8 teams from Chennai carried out simultaneous searches at the houses of his relatives, the office of the Trust and his ancestral house in Palani. Several documents were seized from Palani as well.

“Krishnaswamy brought most of his properties in Palani. But none of them are registered in his name,” an official said. The official said three of his daughters, one of whom is a doctor, his father in law and the money lender were booked in the case. CBI officials have not recovered cash or jewellery during the raid.
