Music set the tune of service
Bhakta Swaraa Bhajan Mandali, a group promoting devotional music, has been spotting areas in the city that need relief and support, even weeks after the floods.
Chennai
One of our members was carrying out relief operations during the heavy rains in November. When the second spell of rains on December 1 worsened the situation, we decided as a group to distribute food to those affected in Saidapet and Jafferkhanpet. We reached out to slum dwellers in both areas and made food for over 2,000 people. Later, we were told that food was available in abundance and that there was more need for clothes and blankets. We collected money from members and others who were willing to help and bought sarees and blankets. When we realised the same people were collecting the relief material, while others were still in need, we decided to go and deliver to everyone who needed, it personally. We also distributed clothes and blankets to those in Pulianthope and to 35 children from Ahobila Matam, apart from a home near Mudichur. A 35-member group, we believe that to spread the joy of music, we have to adopt a service mentality.
