The Met department warned fishermen in coastal areas including Rameswaram, Mandapam, Thondi, and Pamban against venturing into the sea due to high winds with speeds of up to 55 Kmph. With rain continuing from Sunday morning, Rameswaram recorded 66 mm and water has stagnated in many areas making riding two wheelers risky while water has also entered houses in low lying areas. Meanwhile, the 780 boats anchored in Rameswaram harbour face the danger of damage when they dash against each other due to the inclement weather. Hence fishermen have demanded construction of breakwaters to enable anchoring of many boats. The state government has started work on fish landing centres at Danushkodi, Munthirai chatram, Pamban and Thangachi madam, officials said.
