    The recent deluge in the city affected not only the livelihood of Chennaiites, but also damaged interior and arterial roads in many parts of the city spurring Chennai Corporation to swing into action. Bus commuters and motorists have been urging Corporation officials to take a look at this issue who have assured that repair works will be carried out in January 2016. Sources said that traffic almost came to a halt at several places as pits had been dug up on most roads. “It is difficult for us to negotiate the bumpy roads and it is taking a long time to reach our destinations. Taking stock of the situation, the officials should start road repair works as soon as possible,” says A Thangaraj, a member of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation. 

    The heavily damaged roads have also raised fears among the motorists and pedestrians as it could result in accidents, said another motorist of Porur, adding that even roads leading to remote colonies suffered the worst. L Nanthakumar, Superintendent Engineer, Bus Route Road (Corporation), said that preparations for carrying out road repairing were underway in the City. “Work order will be provided in January, and repair work will start after Pongal and it will be completed in the next 25 days,” he said, adding that they have been constantly taking a survey of damaged roads in the city.
